Expanding Potential Dental Applications of Glass Ionomer Cement by Incorporating with Nano-Hydroxyapatite

نویسندگان

چکیده

Glass ionomer cement (GIC) is a common restorative material in dentistry, but it exhibits relatively weak mechanical properties. The present study focuses on incorporating nano-hydroxyapatite (nHAP) with different ratios (1, 3, 5, and 7wt%) GIC to improve its Mechanical properties, sorption, solubility, diffusion coefficients after storage distilled water for 60 days were studied. highest sorption was measured at 7%wt (46.66 µg/mm3), the lowest solubility case of sample containing 5% (29.166 µg/mm3). Moreover, value diffu-sion coefficient 8.5 mm/s nHAP. All all, an ideal nHAP/GIC composition prepared, can be applied as basis underneath dental filling.

Reinforcement of Glass Ionomer Cement: Incorporating with Silk Fiber

The aim of this study was to synthesis of glass ionomer-silk fiber composite and to evaluate the effect of adding natural degummed silk fiber on the mechanical properties of glass ionomer cement (GIC). For this purpose, natural degummed silk fibers with 1 mm in length and 13-16 µm in diameter were added to the ceramic component of a commercial glass ionomer cement in 1, 3 and 5 wt. %. Compressi...

Enhanced bioactivity of glass ionomer cement by incorporating calcium silicates

Glass ionomer cements (GIC) are known as a non-bioactive dental cement. During setting the GIC have an acidic pH, driven by the acrylic acid component. It is a challenge to make GIC alkaline without disturbing its mechanical properties. One strategy was to add slowly reacting systems with an alkaline pH. The aim of the present study is to investigate the possibility of forming a bioactive denta...

Incorporation of Hydroxyapatite-Silica Nano-Powder for Enhancement of Glass Ionomer Cement (GIC)

Glass Ionomer Cement (GIC) is one of the most popular materials among the available dental restorative materials. They have desirable properties like direct adhesion to the tooth structure, thermal compatibility [1] and good biocompatibility [2,3]. Despite these advantages, brittleness, low tensile and flexural strengths have limited their use only to certain low stress-bearing sites. As such, ...

Effect of Incorporation of Nano-Hydroxyapatite and Nano-Zinc Oxide in Resin Modified Glass Ionomer Cement on Metal Bracket Debonding

Background and Aim: Use of fluoride releasing materials to decrease the risk of demine-ralization around orthodontic brackets would be reasonable as an adhesive for bracket bonding only if they provide acceptable shear bond strength (SBS). The aim of this study was to evaluate the SBS of resin-modified glass ionomer cements (RMGICs) modified by nano-zinc oxide (NZnO) and nano- hydroxyapatite (N...

Microhardness and Wear Resistance of Glass Ionomer Cements Modified by Chitosan and Nano-Hydroxyapatite

Despite the merits of glass ionomer cements (GICs), they suffer from weak mechanical properties such as low wear resistance. In this study, the mechanical properties of GICs after incorporating chitosan and nano-hydroxyapatite was investigated. The samples were prepared in four groups, including non-modified GIGs (NMGIC, n = 5), chitosan incorporated GICs (CHGIC, n = 5), nano-hydroxyapatite inc...
